PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM TONY BLAUER
The summer has been our busiest ever! In the last four weeks, we ran courses for the Border Patrol, DoD, held our annual S.P.E.A.R. & PDR Summer Camp, and then conducted a Personal Defense Readiness Certification, a S.P.E.A.R. System 3.0 law enforcement course, and a custom operator course for the U.S. Marshals - all in the same week! This week our MTT (mobile training team) is back on the road working two courses up at Fort Meade for the U.S. Army. Really proud of my training team.
On to the camp. Definitely the biggest, but more importantly, the best ever. Here's my quick & dirty...nearly 200 people from all over the world, including the USA, Canada, the UK and two from as far as Italy invaded the facility. CrossFit founder Greg Glassman opened the event with an inspiring speech on CrossFit, fitness and its relationship with overall & optimum health. On Saturday morning, almost the entire group showed up for a tough CrossFit WOD run by Brendan Gilliam of
CrossFit Obsession. The group then went through drills all day long covering mind-set, fear management, combat psychology and weapon protection. At 5 pm, another one of our celebrity guests,
Brian MacKenzie, gave a great orientation on the CrossFit Endurance program. Sunday we kicked it off with one of the toughest and most inspiring athletes I know, Kyle Maynard, from No Excuses Athletics. Kyle is one of a kind.
The rest of the day was a whirlwind of drills and then our more experienced PDR & S.P.E.A.R. coaches put on several multiple assailant/home invasion HIGH GEAR demos. *BTW, pics from the camp are up on our blog.
If you missed out this year, pencil us in your calendar now for next year’s camp. It’s set for August 13-15, 2010.
A special thanks goes out to my entire team who came together to make this camp so successful. This year we had a staff of 15 dedicated people who made this camp run so smoothly. Thank you all! A special thank you goes out to my training team for the event led by Tony Torres & Tom Arcuri, outstanding job.
And lastly, I want to thank you—all the attendees, students, fans, skeptics and fanatics—it’s your interest in our research & program that continues to push us to continue innovating drills & skills. See you next year!
Train Hard,

20 CONSECUTIVE PDR CERTS!
This year we ran an additional PDR Cert that took place immediately following the annual Summer Training Camp. PDR 20 started off with more energy than previous courses because all the attendees had just spent 2.5 days at the combatives camp reviewing psychology of fear, close quarter tactics and more, before they started the official PDR Cert. The group had more energy and intensity as they jumped into the material in full stride. The camp obviously warmed them up.
The diverse group, made up of traditional & eclectic martial artists, as well as MMA, self-defense exponents from around the world, left the advanced instructor certification session armed with new drills and skills, and they left inspired to help make their students and communities safer. If you're a passionate self-defense instructor and would like to look into joining our team, please email Tom@pdrteam.com.
There's lots of time to prepare for the next session - don’t miss our final class for 2009—October 15-18, sign up now.
RECENT TRAINING EVENTS -- S.P.E.A.R. IN SOCAL
The Carlsbad S.P.E.A.R. System Course once again hosted us for another nearly sold out event (their limit is 42). This summer's course had 36 attendees; in attendance were agencies and units from the DEA, Anaheim Police Department, the UN Headquarters in NY, and we even had a trainer from as far away as Australia.
This is our standard police sciences course, which teaches trainers how to implement the system effectively into their agency. Click here for details. Coaches Cliff Byerly and Travis White (pictured) did an excellent job of leading the experienced officers in attendance.
