There are some very exciting things happening in Europe in 2009. We are in the midst of expanding our training division officially into Europe and rolling out a police 'End-User' program.
For the first time ever, those suitably qualified will be endorsed to provide 1-day 'end-user' programs in S.P.E.A.R. Fundamentals and HIGH GEAR scenario programs.
If you have trained in two or more of our BTS 5-day instructor development courses, you are eligible to be included in this program. Accreditation will allow you to offer specific courses to other law enforcement personnel or to the general public as a volunteer or in a commercial fashion if you are set up to do so. We've been asked by police trainers for something like this for years and we have finally built enough of a following that we are confident it will grow.
This course is a must for Personal Safety Trainers, Firearms Instructors, AFO, members of the Armed Forces and Police Officers.
This innovative course integrates our world-renowned startle-flinch research from the S.P.E.A.R. System™ into a variety of close quarter confrontations where your opponent is armed. This includes gun takeaways, grappling with an armed assailant, grappling while you're armed, engaging an armed suspect while you're unarmed and much more.

In addition to the course, we will be holding a group meeting about BTS EUROPE as well as a HIGH GEAR presentation, T&E and discussing ways S.P.E.A.R. coaches can participate in the HIGH GEAR and 'End-User' programs.

Hi all,
I am a firearms trainer in the UK. Our Force is part of the UK non-firearms use Taser trial. As part of the 3-day course these guys get before carrying Taser, we include a S.P.E.A.R. Weapon Protection input.
One of the guys I trained some months ago came up to me last week and said, “That S.P.E.A.R. stuff should be taught to everyone.”
He had been on routine patrol on a Friday night when called to a fight in a street. A drunk male closed in on him and went to swing a punch. He picked up the PCQs, moved forward into the guy with a half S.P.E.A.R., knocked the drunk back and de-escalated the situation with verbal commands.
He said: The S.P.E.A.R. training just took over, I saw what needed to be done and did it. Before S.P.E.A.R. I would have moved back to keep distance and would not have gained control so quickly.
This response was after just a 4 hour SPEAR session over 7 months ago.
It would seem this SPEAR stuff works!!!

I'm a firearms instructor in a County Police Force in the U.K.
I managed to get the S.P.E.A.R. System introduced into my organization six years ago when I was trying to discover a better system of weapon retention for our firearms officers. Little did I realize how much S.P.E.A.R. would come to influence our firearms training in general, although over the six years, the 100-plus officers that I train will have had no more than about eight S.P.E.A.R. pure sessions, due to our busy training schedule. One of the sessions included S.P.E.A.R. & Smear / Clear and the gauntlet drill.
On a recent operation to arrest a bunch of armed robbers the operation turned into a chase onto a train. One of our guys, armed with a G36 carbine, was first onto the train in pursuit, made his way along the carriage and when within verbal range of the bad guys started issuing commands to get down. The nearest bad guy failed to respond by which time he had been closed down by the officer who launched a Half S.P.E.A.R. to centre mass putting the bad guy on his butt. The other bad guys seeing this then complied with verbal commands.
Meanwhile the other officer, also armed with a G36 Carbine, was trying to get to his colleague to back him up but the passengers were now beginning to panic, probably thinking it was a terrorist incident. Several started to get up to leave the train. This officer said he launched about four successive S.P.E.A.R.& Clears "Just like in that drill we once did," he said.
Quite satisfying for me having trained these two guys but also testament to the genius of the S.P.E.A.R. System. Simple, retainable and very usable after a short period of training. This guy had practiced the gauntlet drill once about 18 months ago.
