It’s been a long, long time since we released our last newsletter - almost a year. The truth is our corporate growth (we opened another office in the States) and the OPTEMPO of our mobile training team (over 180 days on the road) limited some of our other projects like the newsletter, filming new videos, R&D on new equipment projects and so on. We also out-grew our newsletter technology…so we’re very excited to launch our latest generation of SPEARtips 3.0. It’s faster, leaner, meaner and uses blog technology, so it will be even more interactive. Let us know what you think, offer suggestions, send us questions…let’s co-develop this blog with a more media friendly, open-source model. With the opening of our second corporate office in the USA and plans to open up SPEAR EUROPE, we have been moving at a frenetic pace. Our team has grown immensely with several new strategic partnerships and plans for expansion to help us bring our research and programs to the law enforcement & military as well as the general public. Let’s start with the biggest news. The new headquarters and training facility in Virginia Beach is operational. The 28,000 square-foot facility includes an extensive combatives area, classrooms, conference rooms, FIGHT HOUSE, an MMA Training area, an Octagon and the world’s largest Crossfit training center (CTC). Throwdown Industries has also installed a full-sized, matted cage, two custom heavy bag racks with a mix of Muay Thai, Teardrop, and uppercut heavy bags. In High Gear™ with the stars of MMA 
The effectiveness of the High Gear™ impact reduction training suit for safe and realistic training is taking the MMA world by storm. Top fighters and trainers from all over the country are integrating the gear for perfecting their striking and “ground and pound” skills. Randy Couture and the late Evan Tanner were among the first MMA stars to start using HIGH GEAR and over the years the likes of George St. Pierre, Diego Sanchez, and many more started integrating our gear into their training. The latest group of MMA superstars includes: B.J. Penn, Quinton Jackson, Houston Alexander, Joe Lauzon, Urijah Faber & Frank Mir. [More] CrossFit & Blauer Tactical Partnership! “The SPEAR is to fighting what CrossFit is to fitness.” BTS Summer Training Camps a Success in Two Continents 
The first summer camp was held on Saturday, August 2nd through to Sunday, August 3rd, 2008 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Over 50 students from all over Europe were treated to an intensive weekend of training. All learned the scientific drills and skills of Personal Defense Readiness™. They were also treated to a combat calisthenics session as well as a High Gear™ demonstration. The second summer camp was held on Friday, August 15th through Sunday, August 17th, 2008 in Virginia Beach, VA at the state-of-the-art BTS Training Center. This was the largest summer camp yet with over 100 participants learning the fundamentals of the S.P.E.A.R. System™. Greg Glassman, the founder of Crossfit, led the way with a discussion on how the S.P.E.A.R. System™ and Crossfit compliment each other. Brendan Gilliam, Crossfit Coach, led the group on a Saturday morning Crossfit workout prior to the start of the camp. The camp attendees were also exposed to some advanced S.P.E.A.R. concepts such as leg kicks for the street and the S.P.E.A.R. System’s Street Clinch. On Sunday, the camp was treated to a demonstration of High Gear™ and the SPEAR System™ vs. multiple opponents and armed assaults. Top Dutch Trainer Joins BTS in Virginia 
Erwin Van Beek, one of our top trainers from Europe is in town to consult on a new program management project. Mr. Van Beek will be assessing our current program and contrasting it with research done at the national level in Holland. Mr. Van Beek, along with his associate Wytse Dijkstra, were responsible for bringing the S.P.E.A.R. System to Holland four years ago and integrating it at the national level. Currently, their DT and SWAT training includes S.P.E.A.R. System research and drills. Mr. Van Beek will use his knowledge of lesson plan creation, programatics and advanced leadership and education training to help take the S.P.E.A.R. System to the next level. [More] PDR 17 at the BTS World HQ & Training Facility PDR 17 marked the first official BTS course held at the new Virginia Beach facility. Professional self-defense instructors, military personnel, and police officers came from all over the country to learn the S.P.E.A.R. System’s unique scientific research into fear, violence, and aggression. The next PDR Instructor class, PDR 18, will be held October 24-26, 2008 also in Virginia Beach, VB.
